Last night on the anniversary of the signing of the Kellogg-Briand Pact, Veterans for Peace, Chapter 27, Women Against Military Madness, and other groups with offices at 4200 Cedar in Minneapolis, dedicated a Peace Pole in the front of the building.

Unless we revive an antiwar movement in the United States, none of this will occur in the present time. It is war that is destroying our economic being and our future. Ultimately, it will be our refusal to oppose and work to end war that will destroy our souls.
We must swear off making the world our battlefield and be appalled to hear the U.S. government seem to tell the world "I will kill you if you f---ing move."
We are a group of concerned U.S. citizens currently visiting Russia with the goal of increasing understanding and reducing international tension and conflict. We are appalled by this call for direct U.S. aggression against Syria, and believe it points to the urgent need for open public debate on U.S. foreign policy.
Since the early 1980s, polls in the US have shown that most people believe that the government is run by a few big interests looking out for themselves... I do not know of earlier polls, or polls in other countries, but it would not be surprising if the results are similar. The important question is: are people motivated to do something about it?

If the GPI is right about what produces peace, you’d have to conclude that the US is heading toward increased violence.
