Red Lake Nation Tribal Members Blockade Enbridge Pipelines

Below are two videos from the Red Lake Reservation encampment that started March 1 to protest the Enbridge pipelines on reservation land in northern Minnesota.
Here’s a  short video of the encampment at Red Lake Reservation that seeks to stop the flow of Tarsands oil in Enbridge pipelines: a Canadian Enbridge cop drops in by helicopter and delivers coffee. Love to all the folks camping to save our climate! Some Occupiers from the Twin Cities have joined the Red Lake Tribal Members.

Marty Cobenais, the speaker in this video, works with the Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN).

There are 6 Enbridge pipelines, already installed across Minnesota dating back to 1949. These pipelines cross the headwaters of the Mississippi River flowing south, the Great Lakes-Laurentian watershed eastward to the north Atlantic, and the Hudson Bay drainage to the north. All pipelines leak. Tar sands oil is virtually impossible to clean up in the peatland-wetland environment of northern Minnesota.
These Enbridge pipelines from northern Alberta, Canada, cross North Dakota and Minnesota to a Wisconsin refinery. This group of pipelines can carry more tar sands oil than the proposed Keystone XL. Most of the tar sands oil is destined for export to China, India and southern hemisphere expanding economies. Enbridge is asking the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for a 26% increase in one of the pipelines.
