On August 17, 1975 Senator Church appeared on Meet the Press.…The key warning Frank Church tried to scream from the rooftops about back in 1975 is one that is more relevant today than ever, namely that while it may be necessary to have secretive and powerful agencies, which as long as they are controlled and strictly focused on external and foreign threats to the United States can actually be justifiable, yet nothing is more dangerous, and by nothing he meant nothing, than what he viewed in 1975 as the mere possibility that one day the powers and the focus of those U.S Security State agencies would be turned inward primarily targeting not our foreign enemies but the American people themselves.
