A Holiday Wish 2021
by Garbanzo and Chickpea
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the houses
Not a creature was stirring not even the mouses
When out in the capitol there arose such a clammer
Everyone sprang to their cell phones to see what was the matter
It seemed that the agencies of government with Santa and his reindeer
Had just negotiated a special gift to all children being reared
Santa had pleaded, “The children need more than just my sleigh full of toys”
Most of all, Santa had said, we need a future for all girls and boys
And their future is in jeopardy due to climate change and environmental pains
With the buildup of weapons and preparation for war little hope for peace remains.
(The reindeer chimed in with lamentations regarding the loss of their grazing lands due to oil drilling.)
In the spirit of Christmas, everyone was swayed
Even Mitch McConnel said this needed to be okayed
The Secretary of defense said, “Climate change threatens national security every single day”
So they made plans for a future and stapled copies to the packages on Santa’s sleigh:
Nuclear weapons will be disarmed and deployment of future nuclear weapons will no longer be seen
All other military spending will be cut by 50%. Instead, the money will be used to go green
The use of fossil fuels and nuclear power will see nearly one hundred percent declines
Solar panels and wind generators will be built along all freeways and railway lines
Houses will be smaller and living will be more simple
A decent life now and in the future will be the principle
A wink of his eye and a twist of Santa’s head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread
Then he sprang to his sleigh, and to his team gave a whistle
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle
And we heard him exclaim, on Instagram, as he drove out of sight,
“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.”
Ho, ho, ho, ho
