New Years Minneapolis Style

Editor’s Note: Everyday as I drive down Lake Street and other parts of the city I see the signs of reconstruction…I also see the still boarded-up windows with artwork. Some of it is taken down, but new artwork has appeared on the sides of buildings, some clearly painted to stay. Boards created by community artists are being moved away from windows but saved.

Wednesday night a young Somali man was shot by the Minneapolis police. The circumstances are unclear, but evidently he shot at the police and they returned fire. (Was it necessary to kill him?) It is the first killing by police since George Floyd was murdered seven months ago—it still seems like yesterday, or maybe just last week.

My favorite picture in this video is the people marching over the bridge chanting.
