On 28 April, the Stimson Center, in partnership with SIPRI, held a webinar presenting and analyzing the latest trends in global arms transfers and military expenditure.

Dr Nan Tian, Researcher, and Siemon T. Wezeman, Senior Researcher, both from SIPRI’s Arms and Military Expenditure Programme, were among the key discussants together with Rachel Stohl, Vice President of the Stimson Center.

The discussion highlights SIPRI’s data on international arms transfers and the recently released analysis of world military expenditure and analyses potential future dynamics arising from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The webinar features expert insights on regional dynamics and highlighted major arms trade and military spending implications for global peace, security and the economy.

Further details about the event can be found hereWatch the recording of the discussion:

SIPRI’s research on arms and military spending has been the core of the institute’s work since its foundation in the 1960s. This work is largely based around three comprehensive and open-access databases: the Arms transfers database, the Arms industry database and the Military expenditure database. These exemplify SIPRI’s core values of transparency by using only open sources that can be independently checked, and universality by including data on nearly every country in the world. SIPRI also provides documents on all arms embargoes since the 1950s and national reports on arms export controls.
