July 2012
As part of the celebration of Three Decades of Daring Deeds, we are featuring interviews with members who have been with WAMM from its beginnings.
When Brigid heard a talk by WAMM founder Polly Mann, she decided to join Women Against Military Madness.
Brigid is one of four McDonald sisters who are both biological sisters and Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. All four sisters are peace and justice activists and WAMM members. For many years Brigid has worked as a volunteer in the WAMM office. Holding a WAMM or other antiwar sign, she has been a regular presence every Wednesday at the vigil at the Lake Street bridge, which spans the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Known for her beautiful singing voice and genius at making puns and writing clever songs, Brigid brings her sense of humor, hope and joy to the peace movement.
A retired Catholic school teacher, Brigid believes that WAMM has sustained itself through the years because the women of WAMM and supportive men don’t want to see future generations fight wars and kill or be killed.
Brigid says: “Because they have much of the system on their side, we need to work as hard, or harder, to bring about peace as war makers work to make war. To do nothing is to be complicit in waging war.”
Brigid is a member of the WAMM End War Committee and also is on the committee planning Three Decades of Daring Deeds.
You are invited to be part of WAMM’s 30th anniversary by joining Brigid and many others in celebrating Three Decades of Daring Deeds.
