December 4, 2013 – Jon Stewart helped explain Wednesday night the exact difference between corporations and people: when people get in trouble with the law, they can’t pay a shitload of money to settle everything out of court. But corporations? Yes they can! Stewart went through example after example of big corporations paying settlements in cases of fraud, using a weird John Carter system of measurement, and mockingly saying, “I’m sorry I committed systemic fraud for years. How about I give you a cut of it?!”
Because the maxim for corporate America appears to be, as Stewart put it, “Don’t do the crime if you can’t pay the nominal fine”
But what really shocked Stewart was Johnson & Johnson actually bribing doctors to prescribe useless drugs to the elderly and little children. It’s so shady and screwed up, “you’re not even allowed to do that in Grand Theft Auto!”
