DN! Two Years After Jan. 6, Capitol Attack Casts Long Shadow Over GOP That Allows Extremism, with Andy Campbell

“This week, people who encouraged and even attended the insurrection are now taking their places as leaders in the new House majority — people like Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who said insurrectionists would have won on January 6th if she had been involved, or Representative Matt Gaetz, who encouraged voters to arm themselves at the polls.” -Michael Fanone
UPDATE by Rise Up Times: On the 15th attempt Kevin McCarthy was elected Speaker of the House but not until after serious concessions were made to extreme right factions that are of concern for democracy.
Trump, in the meantime, by accusing the Democrats of trying to “overthrow Democracy,” is using the “blame the enemy” fascist (and Machiavellian) trick: the NAZI propaganda of the time blamed the Jews for the wars that Hitler & Co. started.  It is the neoliberals as the ruling elite who are destroying Democracy, and there are neoliberals in both Repub and Dem camps, but more predominant and flagrant in Trump and Trump’s GOP followers on the extreme right. NOTE: please do not confuse neoliberalism and liberalism: they are quite different things and oppositional. See Henry Giroux’s article below for more information on this topic.

NEW LANGUAGE

NEW GLOBAL POWER FORMATIONS

 NEW MODES OF POLITICS

“Power is global and politics is local. That must change. We need a new language for understanding new global power formations as well as new international modes of politics to fight them.

Social movements must move outside of national boundaries and join with others across the globe to fight the savagery of neoliberal global politics and central to such a task is the work of intellectuals, artists, cultural workers, and others who can fashion new tools and social movements in the fight against the current anti-democratic threats being imposed all over the globe.”

ABOLISH NUCLEAR WEAPONS

The ‘apocalyptic’ chess game between the superpowers, that is, between those that move on the highest plane of our civilization, is being played according to the rule ‘if either “wins” it is the end of both’; it is a game that bears no resemblance to whatever war games preceded it. Its ‘rational’ goal is deterrence, not victory, and the arms race, no longer a preparation for war, can now be justified only on the grounds that more and more deterrence is the best guarantee of peace. To the question how shall we ever be able to extricate ourselves from  the obvious insanity of this position  there is no answer.”

 NUCLEAR WEAPONS ARE NOW ILLEGAL!

The U.S. needs to join other countries worldwide in banning nuclear weapons.
